Austria made a fast start to proceedings, Rangnick's fast and aggressive style on full display, and they were ahead inside 10 minutes when centre-back Trauner sent a fine header beyond Wojciech Szczesny.
But, to their credit, Poland were able to soak up Austria's continued pressure and found a way back into the game on the half-hour mark. Rangnick's side failed to clear a corner and Krzysztof Piatek reacted quickly to fire a loose ball home.
Poland introduced Robert Lewandowski in the second half but their hopes of securing three much-needed points were dealt a blow when Baumgartner finished off a neat move to restore Austria's lead, a lead they would extend through Arnautovic's late penalty.

THE MVP
Christoph Baumgartner: Worked himself into the ground and was rewarded for his efforts when he scored Austria's second goal. The RB Leipzig midfielder nearly provided an assist for Patrick Wimmer and was the driving force for Rangnick's side.

THE BIG LOSER
Robert Lewandowski: The 35-year-old's tournament is likely over before it even really began. After missing Poland's opening game through injury, Lewandowski was introduced on the hour mark but was unable to make an impact, and earned himself a yellow card after catching Philipp Leinhart with an elbow.

WHAT COMES NEXT?
Austria will be eyeing a place in the knockout round and victory over the Netherlands on Tuesday will secure that. Poland, meanwhile, take on France knowing that their tournament is likely over with this defeat.
